Librarians’ Choice is closing down
Librarians’ Choice has been operating for three years now, and we are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in this time. The project continues to gain momentum with more libraries embracing Librarians’ Choice each month.
However, it has grown beyond our capacity to run with a tiny team of volunteers and at our own expense. It is with regret that we inform you Librarians' Choice will cease operation after the publication of the April Top 10 for 2019.
Libraries are critical to making reading material accessible to all readers, and in allowing readers to make adventurous choices to try new books and authors they may not have purchased (or perhaps even seen) in a bookstore. There is an abundance of evidence that shows the profound benefits reading for pleasure has for a person’s mental health and well-being. We believe that library staff should strive to ensure our communities enjoy these benefits, and hope you'll continue to help them discover the very best Australian books and authors.
We'd like to thank all of the library staff who’ve supported the project, especially those who’ve read and nominated books for the list. We also thank all of the amazing publishing staff and partners who’ve supported Librarians’ Choice by sharing review copies and promoting the initiative. Final thanks goes to ALIA for their advice and enabling us to participate in their conferences. We must particularly thank Louise Sherwin-Stark from Hachette and APA and Sue McKerracher from ALIA.
